Chapter 1: Meet Your Devices

Hello, Technology Friends!

Let’s meet the machines we use every day. Learning their names and parts is the first step to being a great tech helper!

A devicedevice: A machine like a tablet, computer, or phone that helps us learn and play. is a machine that helps us learn and play. Here are some devices:

  • A tablet is flat, and you touch the screen with your finger.
  • A computer can sit on a desk or fold up to carry.
  • A phone is small and fits in a pocket.

Some devices have a touchscreentouchscreen: A screen you touch with your finger to make things happen. — you touch the screen with your finger to make things happen.

Other devices use a mouse — a little tool you move with your hand to point and click.

Let’s name the parts we can touch:

  • The screen shows us pictures and words.
  • The keyboard has buttons with letters to type.
  • The camera can take pictures and see us on a call.

A grown-up helps us turn on a device and log in — that means showing it’s really us, sometimes with a secret word or by looking at the screen.

We always use gentle hands with devices. They are special tools, not toys to throw!

With a grown-up:

  1. Find a device you use. Point to the screen, a button, and the camera.
  2. Say if you touch the screen or use a mouse.
  3. Draw your favorite device and color it!
