Chapter 4: Communicating and Creating
Communicating and Creating ✍️
Section titled “Communicating and Creating ✍️”Sharing Your Ideas with Technology
Technology isn’t just for looking at things — it’s for making things and sharing them! Let’s learn how to send messages, join video calls, and create your own work.
4.1 — Email 📧
Section titled “4.1 — Email 📧”emailemail: A way to send written messages online, used for school and grown-up messages. is like a letter you send online. It’s used for school and important messages (texting is more for friends). An email has:
- A To part — who it goes to.
- A subject — a few words about what it’s about.
- A message — what you want to say.
Be polite! Start with a greeting like “Dear Ms. Lee,” and end with “Thank you, Sam.” Don’t TYPE IN ALL CAPS — it looks like yelling.
4.2 — Video Calls 🎥
Section titled “4.2 — Video Calls 🎥”A video callvideo call: Talking with someone using video and sound over the internet, with apps like Zoom, Google Meet, or FaceTime. lets you see and talk to someone far away. The buttons you need to know: mute (turn your sound off), video (turn your camera on or off), and chat (type a message).
Sit somewhere quiet and bright, with the camera at eye level, and remember to unmute when it’s your turn to talk!
4.3 — Making Documents 📄
Section titled “4.3 — Making Documents 📄”Tools like Google Docs and Microsoft Word let you write. You can type, change the size and color of words, add pictures, fix spelling, and save your work. It’s like a super-powered piece of paper!
4.4 — Slideshows 🖼️
Section titled “4.4 — Slideshows 🖼️”A slideshowslideshow: A set of slides with words and pictures used to show ideas to other people, made with tools like Google Slides or PowerPoint. lets you show your ideas one slide at a time, using Google Slides or PowerPoint. The best slideshows use just a few words and big, clear pictures — the slides help you talk, they’re not for reading every word.

Section titled “Chapter 4 Activity: Create and Share 🔍”Part 1: Write an Email
