Chapter 3: Exploring the Internet

A Big World on the Screen

The internet is like a giant library and playground on the screen. Let’s learn what it is and how to explore it safely.

The internetinternet: A way for devices all over the world to share pictures, videos, games, and information. is a way for devices all over the world to share pictures, videos, games, and things to learn. When we watch a video or play an online game, we are using the internet!

We connect with Wi-FiWi-Fi: A way to reach the internet without any wires. — a way to reach the internet without wires.

We can use the internet to learn about anything — dinosaurs, planets, animals! A grown-up or teacher can help you search by typing words to find pictures and answers.

The internet is fun, but we always explore it with a grown-up. If you ever see something that feels scary, strange, or mean, that’s not your fault — just tell a grown-up right away. They will help you.

With a grown-up:

  1. Talk about one thing you like to do on the internet.
  2. Practice saying: “I will tell a grown-up if I see something scary.”
  3. Draw a picture of a grown-up who helps keep you safe.
