It can help you play games. It can help you draw. It can help you learn new things.
A computer is very smart. But you tell it what to do. You are the boss! 😊
Computers Come in Many Shapes
Section titled “Computers Come in Many Shapes”Computers are not all the same. They come in many shapes and sizes. Let’s meet a few of them!
One kind is a laptop laptop: A small computer you can fold up and carry with you. . A laptop can fold up, so you can take it with you. Another kind is a desktop desktop: A bigger computer that stays in one spot, like on a desk. . A desktop stays in one spot, and it is big and strong. There is also a tablet tablet: A flat computer with a screen you touch with your finger. . A tablet is flat, and you touch the screen with your finger. Even a phone is a tiny computer! It fits right in your hand.
Big or small, they are all computers. Isn’t that neat?
Parts You Can See and Touch
Section titled “Parts You Can See and Touch”Let’s name the parts! Look at a computer near you.
First, find the monitor monitor: The screen that shows you pictures and words. . The monitor is the screen, and it shows you pictures and words. Next to it is the keyboard keyboard: The part with buttons and letters that you press to type. . The keyboard has lots of buttons, and you press them to type letters. Then there is the mouse mouse: A small part you move with your hand to point and click on the screen. . The mouse helps you point and click, and you move it with your hand.
Do not forget the speakers! The speakers make the sound, so you can hear music and voices. Last of all is the webcam webcam: A tiny camera on your computer that can see you and take pictures. . The webcam is a tiny camera, and it can see you and take your picture.
Point and Name! 👉
Section titled “Point and Name! 👉”Now it is your turn. Look at a computer. Point to each part.
Say its name out loud. “This is the monitor!” “This is the keyboard!”
Great job. You are learning fast! 🌟
Robo was a shiny little robot. Robo saw a computer for the very first time.
“Wow!” said Robo. “So many parts! What are they all called?”
A kind girl named Mia smiled. “I can help you,” she said.
Mia pointed to the screen. “This is the monitor. It shows pictures.”
Robo beeped happily. “Monitor! I will remember that.”
Mia pointed to the buttons. “This is the keyboard. We type with it.”
Then she wiggled the mouse. “And this helps us point and click.”
Robo pointed too. “Monitor! Keyboard! Mouse!” Robo got them all right.
“You did it!” said Mia. “Now you know the parts you can see and touch.”
Robo did a happy little spin. Learning was fun! 🤖💛
