Chapter 4: Classroom Technology and Online Learning
Classroom Technology and Online Learning 💻📚
Section titled “Classroom Technology and Online Learning 💻📚”Technology in the Classroom
Section titled “Technology in the Classroom”At school, we use technology to help us learn. We use iPads, Chromebooks, and smart boards. Sometimes we even join class through video calls. Just like we have rules for recess and lunch, we need rules for using technology. Netiquette helps us use these tools in a safe and respectful way.
Following Teacher Directions
Section titled “Following Teacher Directions”When your teacher asks you to open a certain app or website, it’s important to listen. Opening games or other apps during class can distract you and your classmates. Good netiquette means following directions so everyone can stay on task.
Respectful: Opening IXL when the teacher says it’s time for practice.
Not Respectful: Sneaking into a game app while the class is working.
Respecting Shared Devices
Section titled “Respecting Shared Devices”Many classrooms share iPads and Chromebooks. That means you’re not the only one using the device. Treating the device carefully is part of good netiquette. This means:
- Carrying devices with two hands
- Not changing settings or backgrounds without permission
- Logging out when you’re done so the next person can log in safely
When you respect the device, you’re also respecting your classmates who will use it after you.
Good Behavior in Online Classrooms
Section titled “Good Behavior in Online Classrooms”Sometimes we learn through video calls or online chats. Netiquette helps here too! Online classrooms Online classrooms: A virtual learning space where students and teachers interact using video calls and shared platforms. work best when everyone remembers:
- Mute when not speaking so others can hear clearly
- Listen respectfully when classmates or teachers are talking
- Use the chat politely — no spamming or typing in all caps
- Stay focused by not opening other tabs or playing games
Imagine if everyone forgot these rules — people would talk over each other, the chat would be full of random words, and no one could learn. Following netiquette makes online class calm and fair.
Why Classroom Netiquette Matters
Section titled “Why Classroom Netiquette Matters”Using netiquette in the classroom keeps learning smooth and fair for everyone. It shows respect for teachers, classmates, and the technology itself. When we take care of our devices, follow directions, and behave respectfully online, the whole class can succeed.
